New Staff Development Course

STAFF DEVELOPMENT COURSE FOR EMILLY GRIFFITH SCHOOL

Part I will be Oct. 14th and Part II will be Oct. 21st. Time will be 3-5:00PM.

A Practical Guide to Financial Wellness
This three hour workshop is designed to give the student “practical” and general financial guidance. The seminar will be broken up into two classes, each being one & a half hour in length. To break the ice, the first session will include a fun and eye-opening discussion on ways to save money. Participants are encouraged to come prepared to share any of their ideas with the class. A free CD with useful templates & student workbook is included with the class! The following is a general outline of PART 1.

• Saving Money:
- Fun and effective tools to stretch your dollar!
- Using the Internet to get free stuff at the grocery store
- Class participation and discussion

• Obtaining Credit:
- Little known secrets on how to get credit or improve it.
- Take precautions in preventing Identity Theft & what to do if it happens to you.
- Understand your rights in getting Creditors and Credit Bureaus to correct errors!
- Learn about the games credit card companies play to legally cheat you out of your money!
- Are those balance transfers really worth the money? Learn how to evaluate this?
- Turn the tables & take advantage of the credit card companies – we will show you how.

• Refinancing:
- Determine for yourself if refinancing is the right thing to do. We will show you how!
- Understand your goals! Do you want lower payments or to pay off the home faster?

PART II gets more serious. It is designed for homeowners that are or could be facing foreclosure in the future. It is also a course for future homeowners that want to avoid ever getting in that position.

• Refinancing: (continued from previous day)
- Understanding the loan fees and terminology. Where can you negotiate!

• Avoiding Foreclosure If Already a Homeowner:
- Don’t give up! Banks want to work with you! Learn about ALL your options.
- Learn where to go to get additional help.
- Refinancing may be an option yet – details on new Foreclosure Protection Act!

• Avoiding Foreclosure For Future Homeowners:
- Buy smart and with the right loan structure, using the right professionals!
- Use a financial advisor before starting the Home Purchase process
- Prepare a budget & Financial Statement. We will show you how.
- Learn how to save money by using someone that will combine their services.

• Additional Resources:
- Can’t cover everything in 3 hours but we can show you where to get the education
- Additional discussion on Buying Foreclosures, HUD Homes, Tax Education, Business Structures
