Changes under 10 words to webpages can be written on a printed webpage.
Changes over 10 words need to sent in an electronic copy (email, word, or text file) with where the changes are to be made (i.e. webpage, paragraph number, etc.)

I will only be accepting changes from Deans and department heads, so please send all of your changes to your Administrators.

Handicapped Parking Around EGOS

Hello staff,

For those of you with handicap hangtags for parking, this is an information message to alert you to a change in the number of hours you can park at the meters surrounding the buildings.

Your vehicle must be moved after 4 hours of parking. Also, to avoid being ticketed, if you move to another handicap spot, you must relocate the vehicle to a different street.

Thanks,

Update on Bathroom Remodeling

Here is the latest update on the restroom remodel.

Toilet partitions will be shipped a week from Monday (8-10) or Tuesday (8-11).
  • Partitions will be installed in eight restrooms that week
  • Plumbing fixtures: Most floor mounted fixtures have been received; wall mounted have not. Fixtures are stored in North restrooms, 2nd and 3rd floor; doors can be locked for security
South restrooms have evidence of a leak in the ceilings of the Men’s restroom, both 2nd and 3rd floors. Leak is apparently from a bad wax ring; maintenance is replacing.

Progress: South, 2nd and 3rd Floors:
  • Fixtures and partitions removed from Women’s
  • Fixtures, except for urinals removed from Men’s
  • Patching complete except at ceiling leaks (still wet)
  • New lights installed in second floor, Men’s and Women’s
Painting in process North, 2nd and 3rd Floors:
  • New fixtures are stored in Men’s and Women’s on 2nd floor
  • Plumbers were working in pipe chase on 3rd floor, North Men’s room
  • Painting is planned to be complete Friday, 7 August
  • Janitorial service will strip and redo existing floors in south area on Monday, 10 August
  • Plumber will start setting fixtures Tuesday, 11 August

Donation to EGOS from Grainger

Grainger Makes $50,000 Donation to Emily Griffith Opportunity School
Donation will provide 50 $1000 scholarships

DENVER, CO – Emily Griffith Opportunity School has partnered with Grainer, Inc., to advance technical education programs, it was announced today. A $50,000 donation from Graniger, Inc., a leading broad line supplier of facilities maintenance products, will provide 50 scholarships worth $1,000 each.
With retiring baby boomers widening the gap between the supply of skilled workers and the growing technical demands of today's workplace, industry experts predict major skilled labor shortages across North America in areas such as manufacturing, HVAC and welding, over the next 10 years. Based on the recommendation of Denver area branch managers, Randall Kopp, Joel Hicks, and Robert Rogers, The Grainger Foundation has stepped up to address this need by awarding $50,000 to advance Emily Griffith Opportunity School technical education programs.
Students at Emily Griffith Opportunity School, Denver’s Technical College, will be eligible for $1,000 scholarships when they enroll in one of the programs in the College of Trades and Industry – Aircraft Maintenance, Automotive Technician, Automotive Collision, Custodial Training, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Welding. Scholarships will be awarded on a need-basis.
“Grainger is proud to partner with Emily Griffith Opportunity School because the school provides a great service in the much needed area of technical education.” said Randall Kopp, Branch Manager at Grainger. “We are excited about helping hard-working students turn into professionals.”
“We are so appreciative of the generosity of Grainger, especially in these economic times,” said Marilyn Bowlds, Executive Director of the Emily Griffith Foundation. “This donation will have a direct impact on our ability to help students attend our college and get started in high paying careers.”

The Passing of Marilyn Weir (Doscher)

I don't know if there are too many of you at Opportunity School who remembers Marilyn Weir. Marilyn headed up the ESL Department at EGOS for many years. She retired and married late in life. Estelle Matus called me to let me know that Marilyn passed away on July 19 at the age of 82. Anyone who would like to remember Marilyn can donate to the Foundation in Marilyn's name. The money will be used for ESL student scholarships.

Thank you,
Jan Raymond

From the Foundation

A good time was had by all at Ladies’ Luncheon fundraiser at Cableland last week. Thanks to the many staff members who supported the event. We have a few real bargains remaining from our silent auction. They are great bargains, because the beginning bids are half or less of the value. For example, one staff member got two round-trip airline tickets to Hawaii for $400! If you’re interested in any of the following, stop by the foundation office, Room 200, or call Marilyn at 34722:

Three-month membership at the Denver Athletic Club

Six-month valet parking pass at Cherry Creek Shopping Center

Self-guided jeep tour from Frisco

Lodge Casino Dining-Dinner at the White Buffalo Grille

Fitzgeralds Casino-Dinner for Four

Preparation of a Living Will and Power of Attorney

Twelve, beautiful, Franklin Collector Plates

We also permitted four men to attend this year. Why? They were managers from W.W. Grainger and presented us with a $50,000 check for fifty $1000 scholarships for TT&I!
