PR Department New TV Commercial
TV Commercial
A new television commercial was filmed and will air during preseason Broncos games. The commercial from last year will be shown as well. The intent is for the old spot to be a promotional one and the new spot to be a call to action (register for school).Early Registration The early registration program prompted 100 students to sign up for classes during the three-day campaign, and many more signed up during the surrounding days. Students have until July 18th the register in order to be eligible for the drawing for 10 cash prizes. Thank you to the registrars, student success center, instructors and everyone else who worked hard to bring this opportunity to the students. Early registration in the summer was prompted to mitigate the inconvenience for students during the DNC. DNCEmily Griffith Opportunity School will be open for business during the DNC (August 25-29). After considering many different options, it was decided that being open offers the least inconvenience to our students. Please see your supervisor if you have questions about your work requirements during that week. Program FlyersThe PR staff is currently updating the program flyers with updated pricing. The flyers should be ready for distribution by the end of July. Opportunity is Building Please send out a letter or email
I wanted to keep you informed about our ongoing efforts to build a new facility for Opportunity School. I believe we have made great progress towards our goal due to all of your support with our letter writing campaign.Because we are committed to making the best possible move for our school, and after careful discussions with DPS, the citizens’ committee and other community developers, we decided it was best to take time to evaluate all of our opportunities for the new Opportunity School. In addition, we face a difficult economic and political climate. Therefore, we have taken our name out of consideration for this bond in November. DPS has agreed to fund a feasibility study that will examine our needs, then design and plan a facility. DPS will help us secure the location for the new Opportunity School and go for another bond to fund our building in 2-3 years. With this development, we can be sure we have explored all options and secured the best possible option to continue the legacy of Emily Griffith Opportunity School. I know we would not have been able to negotiate these items without being able to show the thousands of letters of support to the superintendent and his staff. I now believe we have the full support of DPS as we move forward with our facility. We have been proactive during this process and I promise to continue to aggressively pursue an upgraded facility. Please feel free to email me or stop by if I can answer any questions for you. We continue to need your support and the support of all our community. Please consider sending the attached letter or the below sample email to all the people who wrote letters. Sample email or correspondence:I wrote you in May to ask for your support for Emily Griffith Opportunity School’s new building. Thank you for your support. We got thousands of letters from alumni, business partners, students, staff and community members. I wanted to let you know that we are making progress towards securing an upgraded facility for Opportunity School.Denver Public Schools has agreed to fund a feasibility study that will examine our needs, as well as design and plan a facility. DPS will help us secure the location for the facility. In 2-3 years DPS will go for another bond initiative to fund it. Therefore, we will not be a line item on this bond initiative. We feel this is a great step towards making our facility a reality. We now have the full support of DPS and are able to move forward with the careful planning of our project in cooperation with the district. Since we made our last proposal to build on the land adjacent to West High School, many other options have surfaced that are worthy of consideration. This gives us the information and the partnerships to explore all our options.
We will continue to need your support as well move through this process. I will keep you informed about our progress and our foundation is already at work raising money for the project. Thank you again for your help. -- Marla RodriguezManager of Public Relations and MarketingEmily Griffith Opportunity School1250 Welton St., Denver, CO 80204Marla_Rodriguez@dpsk12.org720-423-4755egos-school.comFor All Who Wish To Learn

Emily's Ensemble
This could be YOU...or ME...or ALL OF US! (See attachment)
NOW IS THE TIME. Join your Opportunity School colleagues for a summer of fun and exercise by joining Emily's Ensemble (we can change the name, later if we want). Dee Wood's sister, who is a dance instructor, has graciously agreed to provide us with instruction in modern jazz dancing.
Classes will begin next week at Opportunity School, Tuesday or Wednesday (July 8 or 9), 4-5 pm depending upon the desire of the troop. Cost will be only $5 per week, paid weekly. We will probably continue the troop into October.
Since we need a minimum of ten participants to offer the class, sign up now and encourage your co-workers. This will be a way to have some fun, act silly, make mistakes, and build muscles at the same time.
Contact Jan Raymond to sign up. See you there. Location to follow.
