Those of you who have attended Diversity Day at Emily Griffith Opportunity School know what a great opportunity it is to learn more about the culture of your workers and our diverse Denver community. Our students prepare the food, decorate the classrooms, etc. to make this a truly memorable event for everyone.
Please find attached a sponsorship form for those of you who wish to help defray the cost of this event. Contribution or not, you are cordially invited to attend this outstanding yearly event and a brief description of the event follows. This event is FREE and open to everyone. Please feel free to “pass the word” and have your employees, students, and other staff drop by for a visit.
Emily Griffith Opportunity School, the adult technical branch of the Denver Public Schools, will celebrate its Diversity Day May 15th from 9-3:00PM.
Each year, over 3,000 students from 60 different countries take English as a Second Language classes at Opportunity School. In addition to cultural diversity, the school offers classes in over 45 areas of study that include a wide range of options such as Aircraft & Power Plant, Sewing & Design, Culinary Arts, Nursing and Welding. Technical students in these programs come from a broad age spectrum, 17-84, and diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
On Diversity Day, over 800 visitors go through the Port of Entry and receive a passport to the world of Emily Griffith Opportunity School. There are various rooms representing different parts of the world. Students use this day to showcase food, music, dance, dress and crafts from their countries.
