Early Registration
To help students register for fall classes before the week of the Democratic National Convention, we have created an Early Registration Campaign.Students who register for fall classes by July 18th and paid by September 15th are eligible to win one of 10 cash prizes (5 $300 cash prizes; 5 $100 cash prizes).Instructors who participate in the Early Registration Campaign will be entered into a drawing to win two tickets to the Broncos preseason game vs. Dallas and a $50 gift certificate to Maggiano’s. We will be coming around with a sign up sheet for instructors to sign up for a time on July 8,9 or 10 to send their classes down to register for fall classes. We will also bring a poster about the program for each classroom. Please participate in this program. Here’s how you can help:

Encourage students to register early;
Inform students of their eligibility to win one of 10 cash prizes;
Send your class for an Early Registration Time for July 8th, 9th, or 10th;
Display the poster in your class.

On July 8th, 9th and 10th, students who register will be treated to refreshments in the registration area and receive free food and gifts at the Student Success Center by showing their registration receipt. Students are encouraged to register during the specific assigned class time, but as long as they register before July 18th, they will meet the first criteria to be eligible to win (the other criteria is to be paid by September 15th as defined as paid in full, voucher or letter of intent from third party or payment plan).

Move During DNC

As most of you know, we have been informed that we will not be able to access our building during the week of the Democratic National Convention, Aug 25-29. Therefore we are researching options to be open at an alternate location because this is the week before classes begin and one of our peak registration periods. It is our intention to be open to register students during the week of the convention and further details will be available as soon as possible.

Rocky Mountain News Error

In the Friday (June 20) edition of the Rocky Mountain News, it was erroneously reported that Emily Griffith Opportunity School would move into a renovated West High School building. This is an error – Emily Griffith Opportunity School intends to build a new building on the land adjacent to West HS. This is error was brought to the reporter’s attention and a correction was published on Saturday, June 21 (see below excerpt from the Sat. paper) and in the online version of the paper. Please assist us in dispelling this and other incorrect information. Please contact the PR office if you have any questions or concerns 720-423-4755 or marla_rodriguez@dpsk12.org.

CORRECTION

• A story on NEWS 26 Friday should have reported that Colorado Rep. Ed Perlmutter did not vote on the Iraq war funding bill. He was absent for the vote “due to external circumstances,” according to his office. From Perlmutter’s statement: “I would have voted ‘No’ on this amendment which provides $165.4 billion in funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan because this amendment contained no benchmarks or timelines for redeploying our troops out of Iraq responsibly, safe and soon.”

. A story on NEWS 5 Friday should have said a citizens’ committee studying a bond issue in Denver Public Schools is considering a proposal to sell Emily Griffith Opportunity School and build a new school on property adjacent to West High School.

• A story on NEWS 16 Friday about a program to pay commuters to avoid driving cars alone on U.S. 36 should have included the Web page to sign up for the program: 36commutingsolutions.org.

• The Book of Wizards review on SPOTLIGHT 30 Friday was written by Mark Graham.
