EGOS Staff,
With a couple of exceptions, the fire drill went rather smoothly yesterday and most appreciated the opportunity to be outside on such a beautiful day. (I planned it that way.)
Except for a couple of stragglers, our exit time was 3 minutes and 23 seconds. Unfortunately, we are obligated to record the time that everyone is evacuated from the building, which added another minute to our time. As you know our goal is 3 minutes, which we have been unable to achieve.
There are a couple of reminders about the procedures which should reduce our exit time.
Everyone should exit immediately once the fire alarm sounds. Every alarm should be treated as if it were the real thing.
Students and staff should exit at the closest stairwell. If the exit diagrams in the classrooms indicate otherwise, please advise Brad Vickers.
The first non-teaching staff to arrive at the exit doors should hold the doors open, facilitating a quicker exit for all.
In addition, after exiting the building, staff members should assist in moving everyone at least 150 feet away from the building until the we receive the “All Clear” signal.
We made a few improvements in the staging areas and the process seems to be working well. Thank you all for your cooperation and for making our building a safer place to work.
